Anything made from wheat, barley and rye contains gluten, therefore one would imagine that afternoon tea was out of the question for anyone suffering from coeliac disease but thankfully this is not the case.

Sandwiches, cakes and scones may seem like the most inappropriate of menus for anyone on a gluten free diet, but the pastry chefs in charge of creating some of the UK’s most wonderful afternoon teas have created some delectable alternatives.

Coeliac disease affects approximately 1 in every 100 people in the UK and is a condition whereby the body reacts negatively to anything containing gluten. One of our most recent additions to Afternoon Tea Online is the wonderful Beas of Bloomsbury, a veritable paradise for afternoon tea. Their gluten free option is sublime and features sweets such as mini meringues, fruity marshmallows and mini brownies. Freshly baked gluten free scones are truly mouth-watering, served with strawberry preserve and thick clotted cream.
