The House of Tea
We specialize in selling and serving high quality teas, especially from small farms that are either fair-trade or organic certified. Along with tasty teas, we serve light dining options, such as crepes and scones, sandwiches and salads, empanadas and edamame, all made fresh to order.
History
Established in 2005.
Our first exposure to the public was in April 2005, as we joined the Houston International Festival's celebration of India. Our traditional, fresh-brewed masala chai was a hit with both Americans and Indians alike, and we sold out of our fresh-made ice teas as well (it was a muggy weekend!).
In March 2006, our retail shop opened on Fairview Street, a block off busy Westheimer, between the funky Montrose and ritzy River Oaks of Houston.
Our founders are Connie Lacobie, a native of Hong Kong, and Alyson Bell, a native of Ireland, and both lovers of fine tea and tea culture.
Meet the Business Owner
Connie was born and raised in Hong Kong, moving to America to attend school, and eventually marry and raise a family here. Prior to Te, she was a bookkeeper at Ten Thousand Villages Houston, and previously volunteered there, as she strongly believes in the Fair Trade mission of Ten Thousand Villages, Transfair, and other organizations.
